Helen Ott

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Duke Ott, 83 of Scottsboro, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Scottsboro Funeral Home with burial following in Skyline Cemetery.

She was a longtime member of the Broad Street Church of Christ where she was very active and taught bible classes for many years. Helen was a faithful servant to God and an avid student of God’s word. She lived a wonderful life in service to her lord, her family and others. She was known to her family and friends as, Bam, a name given to her by her first grandchild.

She was born on Friday, July 21, 1939 to Mark and Lura Duke and attended school in Skyline where her mother was a teacher and where she met her lifelong partner. She married J.W. Ott in 1955, and they shared 49+ years of marriage, raising three children together. Their hallmark was hospitality, with their doors always open. Their house was a place where everyone felt welcome and at home. Bam loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. She loved life, laughter and time with family and friends. Bam was a joyful person and wonderful cook. She enjoyed games of all kinds, and was an excellent card player and member of several bridge clubs; she was always busy. She had so many friends, and she was a great friend to all – whether giving compassion and encouragement in times of trouble or sharing in their joy, she loved them as family. Helen and J.W. enjoyed so many years of golf and travel together, which brought them much happiness.

She is survived by her daughters; Brenda (Keith) Devers, Rhonda (Bill) Harrison; son, Greg (Jeanette) Ott; grandchildren, Wendey (Corey) Evans, Wesley (Amy) Devers, Bonnie (Steve) Walker, Christopher Harrison, Elizabeth Harrison, Josh Saraceni, Allison (Jesus) Cordero; great-grandchildren, Hunter Evans, McKinley Evans, Ava Walker, Mia Walker, Frankie Coelho, Samuel Cordero; sister, Jackie (Larry) Peterson; brother-in-law, George Raven; sister-in-law, Frankie Ott; many, many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Leah Raven.
