Earlyne Olivia Smith Allison

Earlyne was born on Sunday, January 16, 1921, and she passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. Services and a celebration of life were held at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Stevenson on Saturday, February 8, 2020 with a private interment following.
She was born in Paint Rock Valley and was the oldest child of Winston T. and Ethel Plaster Smith. She attended Jacksonville State and graduated from Florence State Teachers College (now University of North Alabama). She settled in Stevenson where she taught 6th grade for 30 years. There, she met and married Edwin Davis Allison. Together, they provided a loving Christian home for their only child, Andrea Lynne. They were members of the Stevenson Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she served in the Women’s Ministry and taught Sunday school.
Earlyne was an active member in the Stevenson Book Club, Stevenson Chamber of Commerce, American Cut Glass Association, Highland Ambassadors, Stevenson Organization of Active Women. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Girl Scouts of North Alabama.
As a homemaker, Earlyne excelled in the art of baking and quilting. Her special recipes are well known throughout the area, particularly her famous caramel cake. She was an accomplished hostess and an expert at orchestrating church bake sales, fellowship suppers and numerous holiday feasts. Earlier this month, she celebrated her 99th birthday with a milestone party.
Earlyne maintained a love for Auburn football for her entire life. In 2015 she was inducted into the Foy Society at Auburn University for her support of Auburn Athletics and has been a season ticket holder for 67 continuous years.
Miss Earlyne, as many lovingly called her, was a textbook example of Southern graciousness. Throughout her impressive lifespan of over 99 years, she shared her love of God, family and country with others.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Andrea Allison (Murphy Shaw, Sr.) Flippen; grandsons, Murphree Shaw Flippen, Jr., Jerald Edwin (Stacy Heyer) Flippen; John Allison (Christopher Swope) Flippen; great-granddaughters, Anna Claire Flippen, Lillian Allison Flippen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Davis Allison.
The family is extremely grateful and would like to recognize and thank the caregivers and staff of Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Shoals Hospice of Florence.
