David Willmon

One of Grant Mountain’s favorite sons passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at his home in Grant, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Oak Grove Holiness Church with Rev. Nicky Willmon and Rev. Ollie Taylor officiating. Private family graveside services were held at Gunter Mountain Memory Gardens.
He was born on Friday, September 18, 1942 and raised in the Swearengin and Grant communities, attending school at New Prospect DAR. He was employed at Piggly Wiggly after finishing his education and later began his lifelong professional banking career in 1961, working for Dr. Owen Couch.
He was involved with the Fyffe’s early development, including serving on the town council among other civil organizations. David was a natural bass singer and was a founding member of the Crimson Quartet and sang with the Willmon family, making several recordings over the years. Some of his favorite pastimes were spending time with family, arts and crafts, fishing and singing in the church choir. He also enjoyed traveling. David received Christ in 1965 and was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Holiness Church, where he also served as an elder and trustee.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Willmon; daughter, Suzanne Willmon; sons, Christopher Willmon, Timothy (Beth) Parmer; grandchildren, Maegan (Orlando McRae) Willmon; Emily (Cody) Daugette, Trever (Alex) Willmon, Lindsey (Bo) Patterson, Robert (Helen) Willmon, Verlon (Judy) Willmon, Dwight (karen) Willmon; sisters, Martha (James) Higdon, Maxine (Tim) Byrum; sister-in-law, Martha Willmon. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.D. and Cuba Willmon; infant sister, Reba Willmon; brothers, Lawrence Willmon, Charles Willmon.
