Nance appointed Jackson Co. Commission Chairman

Thirty-four year United States Army veteran, Major General Bill “Willie” Nance, Jr. (ret.) was appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to act as Jackson County Commission Chairman for the remainder of former Chairman Tim Guffey’s term who resigned late last year.

Your Legislative Delegation

The Alabama Senate will be finishing up their 2021 session this month with several important bills now sitting at the House, awaiting floor action. Of these are the Gaming Bill and the Medical Marijuana bill. If any changes are made to the bills by the House, they will return to the Senate for one week. Once there, the Senate will either concur with the changes, or they will go to Conference Committee. This committee is comprised of three members from the House and three members from the Senate. Both parties will discuss changes, hopefully reaching a compromise, wherein the bills will then go back to both bodies for a vote to concur with the agreement.

Luminary Remembrance Service

The Arc of Jackson County invites you to a special luminary remembrance service on Saturday, May 1 at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens. Several hundred candles will be placed throughout the gardens at all entrances, features and drives, completely illuminating the entire garden. These candles will be lit as dusk falls and the devotional service will begin at 7 p.m. Devotion and music for the service will be provided by Randy Sharpe of Calvary Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to attend and witness this beautiful transformation of the Memorial Gardens into a warmly glowing tribute to those who cannot be with us.
