Amelia Kay Edgeman

Ms. Amelia Kay Edgeman, 71 of Scottsboro passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at her home, due to complications from congestive heart failure. Amelia was born in Ringgold, Ga. in 1948 to Ruth and Sanford “Bill” Edgeman. She graduated from Ringgold High School in 1966 and worked briefly in the fashion industry in Chattanooga. In the mid 1970s, she moved to Illinois before settling in Scottsboro in the early 1980s to raise a family. Known for her wry wit, Amelia was a bibliophile with a particular love for stories of mysteries and intrigue, who also enjoyed Alabama Crimson Tide football and her treasured pets. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, she proudly raised Terrier puppies when she lived in Flat Rock. Her greatest joy, however, came as a deeply caring and devoted mother whose compassion and nurturing ensured the best childhood for her two sons. Amelia is survived by her son, Dr. Patrick (Stephanie) Tapia, David (Lytle Warren) Tapia; grandson, Max Tapia; elder sisters, Rebecca McGee, Gwen Childers; brother-in-law, Gilbert Childers; niece, Kim Stephens; nephews, Kent Stephens, Dr. Matt McGee; beloved dogs, Gracie and Cookie. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sandra Teems and Rebecca McGee. Our beautiful sister, aunt, mother and grandmother will be missed, yet the memories of good times passed will not fade. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that regards be made as memorial donations with checks made payable to the Humane Society of the United States, 1255 23rd Street NW, Suite 450, Washington, D.C. 20037 or call at 1-866-720-2676.
