Council approves contingencies for new development

Scottsboro City Council approved two requests from White Development Company to allow for two projects at the last City Council meeting held on Monday, September 28, 2020. White represented its tenant, a popular national grocer that will be installed in an approximate 74-thousand square foot grocery-anchored shopping complex with new retail space for national tenants but also local entrepreneurs. The development will be located at the northwest corner of Highway 72 and State Road 35.

Acting on behalf of the tenant, White presented the first contingency of the addition of a traffic signal, at cost to city at an estimated amount of $225,000. The signal should be functioning for four months before the projected opening of June 1, 2022. In addition, Council also approved the second contingency, allowing funds of $125,000 for the construction of a sewer extension to the property along the frontage road.

Council also voted and approved the city’s first responders on pay-level 17 to be moved to level 18. A cost of living raise of 2% was also approved for city employees.
