Alabama issues new public health order – closes non-essential businesses

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey held a joint press conference today with State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris. A new public health order has been issued.

Included in the order is the ban of all non-work gatherings of 10 or more people and the mandated closure of “non-essential” business, venues and activities. The full order and full list of “non-essential” business can be seen below.

This order will take effect Saturday, March 28 at 5:00 p.m. and remains valid through 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020. Prior to the order expiring, a determination will be made as to whether it shall be extended.

The Scottsboro City Police Department will be handing out notices of this order to businesses who fit the criteria. The Police Department will also be making random checks of these types of businesses after the order takes effect to ensure they are closed.
