Scottsboro Public Library Summer Program

Scottsboro Public Library will feature celebrated magician, Tommy Johns, for its Summer Library Program kickoff.

Scottsboro Public Library’s Summer Program 2023 kicks off the first week of June with “Let’s B Friends” magic show, featuring award-winning performer Tommy Johns. The performance will be at 2 p.m. Wed, June 7 at the library.

“Tommy is always a crowd-pleaser,” says Martha Avans, library assistant at SPL. “This show features magic, puppets, fun and great storytelling.”

During the show, Tommy, his sidekick Roosevelt Rat, a hippo named Claudia, and the kids at the library will learn how to make friends and how to be a friend. “Our summer theme is All Together
Now, and friendship is a big part of what we’re talking about throughout the next two months,” says Avans.

Based in Calhoun, Georgia, Tommy Johns is an educator, comedian, magician, puppeteer and storyteller who travels all over the southeast performing programs that encourage kids to read. He has won numerous awards including the Greater Atlanta Magician of the Year.

“I believe that reading opens the door to learning about everything else in life. That’s why all my school and library shows encourage reading,” says Johns, who has been a professional performer
since his college days. An avid reader himself, Johns performs about 200 shows each year in schools and libraries and at special events all over Georgia and Alabama.
