Shirley Vester

Mrs. Shirley Burrow Holt Vester, 71, born on Tuesday, September 11, 1951 to Willie and Jennie Burrow, left this life she enjoyed and those she loved to be with our heavenly father on Monday, March 13, 2023. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Rev. Donavan Whited officiating. Burial followed at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.

Shirley was raised and loved by Bradley and Mary Talley. After graduating from Scottsboro High in 1970, she attended Alverson-Draughon College. In 1975, Shirley began working at Jackson County Hospital, retiring in 2017. She professed salvation and lived a life of God’s fruits, as well as being a member of Kennemer Baptist Church in Flat Rock for eight years. She always enjoyed traveling and especially when it came to watching her nephews play basketball. The doctor said her heart was so enlarged it took up a lot of her chest cavity. I know in medical terms that is not desirable, but for her, it described the heart her family and friends always knew. She was the most giving, trusting and loving person to all who had the pleasure to meet her and to her family who were blessed to have her. A dear friend of hers stated, “To know her was to love her.”

She will be missed beyond measure by her best friend and loving daughter, Michelle Whited; her biggest blessing, her granddaughter, Paislee Whited; two gentlemen she regarded as sons, son-in-law, Donavon Whited; nephew, Brad Whitmire; loving siblings, Billy Burrow, Bobby and Charlotte Talley, Judy and Tim Johnson; brother-in-law, Harold Hall; a host of nephews, nieces, church family, classmates and friends she loved.

She had mourned the passing of her husband, Larry Vester; siblings, Edward Burrow, Ruth Hastings, Marie Hall, Betty Pyburn, Charles Burrow; stepdaughter, Sara Braze; mothers-in-law, Ruby Holt and Vonnette Vester.
