SFD Annual Report: Fiscal Year 2020-2021

This annual report documents another successful 12 months for the department as we continue to strive to provide the best possible service for the citizens in our jurisdiction. Scottsboro continues to obtain a PPC rating of Class 3. This rating places Scottsboro in the top 10% of graded communities in Alabama and 11% nationally. This rating cannot only lower homeowner’s insurance rates but also helps make the community more enticing to prospective businesses.

Shirey found guilty of murder

On Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in the Jackson County Circuit Court, Byron Keith Shirey was found guilty by a jury of his peers for the 2017 murder of his 78-year-old father, Charles Shirey. Keith was charged in September of 2019 of murder after investigations yielded overwhelming evidence that he had a hand in his father’s murder.

Jackson Co. Veterans Court almost a reality

According to Jackson County Circuit Judge Brent Benson, the county’s first-ever Veterans Court is well on its way to becoming a reality. After receiving the grant from Redemption Township Partners, a committee was formed, and the members are readying their very first meeting that will be attended by Veterans Affairs (VA).
