Drive-Thru Screening and Collection Site for Patients with a Physician Order COVID-19 Test

Highlands Medical Center, in coordination with city and county agencies, is opening a drive-thru screening and collection site for patients with a physician order to be tested for COVID-19.  The screening site will be open today,Wednesday, March 25 through Friday, March 27 from 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  It is located at the Scottsboro Junior High School on Heroes Drive.  Only patients with a physician order and appointment will receive service through the drive-thru screening and collection site.  People without a physician order will not be screened.

SBA offers disaster assistance to Alabama small businesses economically impacted by COVID-19

The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering low-interest federal disaster loans for working capital to Alabama small businesses suffering substantial economic injury as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza announced today. SBA acted under its own authority, as provided by the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act that was recently signed by the President, to declare a disaster following a request received from Gov. Kay Ivey on March 17, 2020.

Scottsboro Police investigate shooting

SCOTTSBORO, ALABAMA- On March 23, 2020 at around 6:40 pm the Scottsboro Police Department received a call in reference to “shots fired” in the 100 Block of Happiness Drive. Officers arriving on the scene discovered that multiple bullets had been fired into an occupied dwelling, with no reported injuries.  Officers were able to obtain and put out a description of the suspect’s vehicle.

Seven JCSO staff members quarantined as a precaution

According to Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips, early Sunday, March 22, 2020, James Hunter Scott, age 25 with a Stevenson address, walked into the Bridgeport Police Department and stated he had shot a man in Jasper, Tennessee. Three Jackson County deputies and one investigator responded and made the arrest in Alabama, and held Scott in the Jackson County Jail for Tennessee. He was extradited to Tennessee that evening.
