Heritage Center addition nearing completion

The addition at the Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center is well underway. According to Scottsboro Museum Commission Vice Chairperson Susan Fisher, “This long-awaited feature will establish a cultural center for all citizens which will accommodate the performing arts and a variety of community activities, including civic and community meetings, receptions, social functions and lectures.”

Scottsboro awarded $1.4m in ATRIP-II Grant

MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Department of Transportation on Tuesday announced that more than $45 million in funding is being awarded to cities and counties for various road and bridge projects.

JCHA Goes Virtual for the January 2021 Meeting

The next meeting of the Jackson County Historical Association will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, January 31.  It’s too cold to meet outside, as we have for our last two meetings, and too dangerous to bring a crowd together at the depot. So the January 2021 JCHA meeting will be a Zoom call. We hope this format will encourage our out-of-town subscribers and Facebook members to participate.

First Southern State Bank warns local business owners to be cautious as they open their email or apply for credit online.  According to reports to the Federal Trade Commission, businesses are experiencing fraud in regard to government sponsored loan programs.

Gov. Ivey updates about COVID-19

MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) announced that ADPH will provide COVID-19 vaccinations for people 75 years old or older, first responders, including law enforcement and firefighters, statewide by appointment only effective January 18. Appointments are made first come, first served.
