Geraldine’s Kristen White and Sylvania’s Donovan Dalton were chosen by the DeKalb County basketball coaches as MVP’s for the 2009-10 season.
White, a senior guard, led the Lady Bulldogs to a 23-7 record and an area championship for the second straight year. The sharp-shooter tallied 18.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. She also finished with 98 steals.
Dalton, a senior forward, finished the year averaging 16 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Dalton led his team to a
21-12 record and a DeKalb County Tournament championship.
For the coaches, Sylvania’s Glenn Haynes was chosen boys Coach of the Year. Haynes led the Rams to their first county championship since 1992 and a berth to the Northeast Regional in Jacksonville.
The girls Coach of the Year was Ider’s Blake Laney. In Laney’s first year at the helm he led the Lady Hornets to a 20-7 record and won both the Sand Mountain and DeKalb County tournaments.
Rounding out the girl’s all-county team members were: Kayla Beaty, Hope Benefield and Taylor Oliver, Ider; Emily Peek and Molly Williamson, Crossville; Taylor Frazier and Lori Hitchcock, Sylvania; Anna Busby and Jade Crowell, Plainview; Lacey Gipson and Whitney Brown, Fyffe; Alanna Smith and Raney Body, Geraldine; Kristen Ford, Collinsville and Haven Downer, Valley Head.
Boy’s all-county team members were: Zach King, Justin Everett, Leighton Wright and Dustin Dalton, Sylvania; Josh Barksdale, Ryan Tramel, Taylor Thrash and Jesse Martin, Fyffe; Justin Mayo and Kole Richards, Crossville; Dylon Overdear, Ider; Greg Blansit, Valley Head; Matt Cole, Geraldine; Jacob Crowell, Plainview and Tyler Tidmore, Collinsville.
