At the February 22 Jackson County Commission Meeting, a motion was passed regarding interest of receiving economic development and facility bonds. Jackson County is declared a recovery zone and is eligible to receive the federal bonds.
Representatives from Sterene Agee and Morgan Keegan visited the Jackson County Commissioners at the February 18 work session to discuss the availability of the bonds to the county. According to Jackson County Administrator Sandra Erickson, the county is eligible for $4.5 million dollars in Economic Development bonds and $6.8 million dollars in facility bonds. Erickson said she met the deadline and submitted a letter saying the county is interested in the bonds. Erickson also stated the next deadline for this process will be March 31. This is when all projects from bond issuers must be submitted to Montgomery. In other business: Jackson County Commission attorney John Porter announced that commissioners would have to go before a mediator to settle the months-long dispute over hiring a county engineer. Commissioners have been unable to agree on candidates for the position. No date has been set for the mediation.
