Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the competition proved to be tough this year, as Southside-Gadsden took home the state championship trophy with 153 points.
Arab took second with 127.5 points while Tallassee placed third with 125 points and Fort Payne finished fourth with 123.5 points.
Scottsboro took fifth overall with 85 points.
The Wildcats did have a few individual state champions.
In the 103-pound division, Brandon Womack took home a state title by beating Southside’s Haden Ryals in the finals.
In his previous two matches, Womack pinned his opponents to keep his record untainted.
Alex Whigham also took home a state title for the Wildcats. Whigham won the 189-pound weight class by beating Tallassee’s Tyler Lynn in the final match.
In the 171-pound division, Zack Mardis finished runner-up. After earning his way to the finals, Mardis fell to Arab’s Blake Suttles in the finals by a 6-5 decision.
In the 140-pound division, Chase McClure finished fourth overall. John White finished fourth in the 145 pound division.
Scottsboro had several other wrestlers to compete in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
Craig Malone, Tyler Shankles, Phillip Jones, all Nick Boyett wrestled in the quarterfinals.
Titus Worthen made it to the semifinals as did Dayne Proctor but both were eliminated.
