The Scottsboro Wildcats picked up a big win against its cross-county rival North Jackson last Monday night. In a high scoring, back and forth game, the Wildcats beat the Chiefs, 95-92. The Wildcats trailed North Jackson by five points in the end of the third quarter but managed to tie the game 92-92 with 30 seconds left in the game.
Deuntae Johnson knocked down some clutch free throws with 7.8 seconds left to give Scottsboro the win. Ben Word led Scottsboro with 22 points. Johnson finished with 17 points, Sammy Douglas had 16 points while Blake Paradise had 20 points. Jake Lewis finished with 11 points. Jovani Taylor finished with a game-high 48 points for North Jackson. The Wildcats fell to Madison County in the first round of the area tournament, 64-59. The loss ended their season. The Scottsboro varsity girls’ squad also defeated North Jackson last Monday, 55-34. Tyris Branford had 18 points. Whitney Fielder had 16 points while Rachel Gass had 13 points. The Lady Wildcats fell to Fort Payne in the area tournament on Thursday night to end their season.
