David “Swane” Morris has been hired as the Scottsboro High School football coach.

Morris, no relative to Athletic Director Larry Morris, is a graduate of Gaston High School and obtained a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Morris has been the head coach of Gaston High School since 2001. His career record is 70-37 and 9-8 in state playoffs. He was selected to coach the North All-Star football team in the summer of 2009 where the team ended a losing streak with the South All-Star team. He was named the Etowah County Coach of the Year in 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2008.

During a called Board of Education meeting, Thursday morning, Morris said he would establish a weight training program for the athletes.
