The Jackson County Park is making changes.
The Jackson County Park Board approved a motion to revise the current Operating Procedures of the Jackson County Park Board.  
A committee within the board (Hugh Whisenant, Horace Clemmons and Melvin Everett) was formed to work with Jackson County Park Board Attorney Gary Lackey on the revision of procedures. The park board also passed a motion to include vehicle use in the revised rules and procedures.

Place 4 candidate and incumbent Keith Smith retained his seat on the Scottsboro City Council in last Tuesday’s election. Smith secured his seat with a 20 percent lead over his opponent, Garry Morgan. Smith received  1,687 votes to Morgan’s 1,108.

First Monday weekend begins Saturday on the Square in Scottsboro and lasts through Monday. The September trade day is one of the largest of the year.
In addition to First Monday, Scottsboro Three Arts Club will host its Art in the Park at the King Caldwell Park on Sunday. The annual event brings hundreds of artisans from around the southeast together. Gates open at 8 a.m. Admission to Art in the Park is $2 for adults and $1 for students. See page 19 for details.

James Kendall Stewart, of Scottsboro, has been found guilty of murder.
Stewart was arrested in March 2009 and charged with murder in the beating death of Michael Garry Faulk.
Originally Stewart claimed he knew nothing about Faulk’s disappearance.

Donations are currently being taken for the family of Savannah Taylor Cochran.
Cochran, a first grade student at Nelson Elementary School suffered a severe brain injury on July 20, 2010 in an automobile accident in Stevenson.
