NACC offers financial aid FAFSA help sessions

The staff of the Financial Aid Office at Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) would like to remind everyone that it is now time to fill out FAFSA applications for Fall Semester.  This can be done online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Or, if you need help filling out your application, then assistance is available to you at the college.
Now through August 10th, NACC will offer financial aid help sessions.  These sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. in an effort to better accommodate students’ work schedules.  Students are welcome to come during any time frame they choose. 

 

Long term recovery committee formed

The Sand Mountain “Long Term Recovery Committee” (LTRC) is a committee that was formed to benefit the storm victims of Jackson and DeKalb Counties.  The LTRC consists of Sand Mountain Baptist Association, The Upper Sand Mountain Parish, DeKalb Baptist Association, Jackson and DeKalb Salvation Army, Red Cross, Emergency Management Agency, Department of Human Resources, other community agencies, some local pastors, and a regional FEMA representative.

   

Jackson County United Givers Fund t-shirt sales to benefit tornado victims

This years Jackson County United Givers Fund t-shirt campaign will benefit the families in Jackson County that were affected by the recent tornados.  The t-shirts will be available to purchase soon.  

   

AARP Launches New Online Tools to Help Spot Medicare Errors and Fight Fraud

AARP  announced two new online tools to help seniors—and their loved ones—better understand their quarterly Medicare Summary Notices. AARP’s new Medicare Summary Notice “decoders,”  available at www.aarp.org/healthtools, provide visitors with an easy-to-use, interactive sample notice. Clicking on each section of the page displays details to help users understand their Medicare statement and potentially spot suspicious charges. AARP has created decoders for both Medicare hospital insurance (Part A) and medical insurance (Part B) notices.

   

Former Section Police officer arrested for rape

On July 6, former Section Police Officer Ryan Keith Evans, 27 of Section, was arrested and charged with four counts of second degree sodomy, two counts of second degree rape, enticing a child and possession of pornographic material.
