Sittin' & Knittin'

Sittin’ and knittin’ - 08/03/11

From time to time, I will give you directions for another afghan square so your knowledge of different patterns will increase. You will knit each pattern into a square and when you have the desired number, you can sew them together. Not only will you have a finished attractive piece of beauty and practicality, but you will have learned various patterns that can be used in sweaters, scarves, dresses, skirts, afghans, etc. Each pattern stitch will have a number for purposes of identification.

Whenever you knit something, you have odds and ends of yarn left over. One of the questions is, what do you do with them?

Sittin’ and knittin’ - 07/20/11

There’s no pattern this week. Anyone who wants to be a serious knitter needs to understand several things, one of them being today’s yarns.

As stated in last week’s column, here are the directions for the second half of the vest.
Abbreviations: k - knit, p - purl, st - stitch, RS - right side, sts - stitches, k2tog - knit two stitches together, psso - pass slipped stitch over knit stitch ( in this instance when you slip a stitch, the pattern calls for you to slip it as if to knit).

I made this vest for my older son for Christmas. The pattern is very easy and works up quickly. I thought it would be a good piece for beginners - so here goes.
