To be remembered: Silver Star recipients, James E. Guffey, Woodrow Pruett

Sgt. James E. Guffey was wounded September 20, 1950 in Korea. He had been in Korea for about nine months as a member of the First Marine Division, Third Battalion, WPS Company.

 

Veterans Day Program

This year an effort was made by the VFW to identify veterans from Jackson County who have received the Silver Star or the Navy Cross.
Recipients of the awards will be recognized or remembered during the Veterans Day program to be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Collins Elementary School Auditorium.

 

Scottsboro Christmas Parade to be “A Storybook Christmas”

The Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce has announced plans for the 2011 Christmas Parade.  The annual spectacle is scheduled to move through downtown Scottsboro on Monday evening, December 5th at 6 p.m.  This year the theme will be “A Storybook Christmas.”  All floats will be judged on their interpretation and decoration merits based on a favorite Christmas story found in almost any children’s storybook.  Line-up will start at 4:30 p.m. in front of Collins Elementary School on Legion Drive, off South Broad Street.

First responders learn electrical safety

Stewart Bradbury shows emergency personnel electrical equipment.Over the next several weeks, representatives from the Scottsboro Power Board are hoping to educate all first responders in the area about electrical safety.
