NACC to receive scholarships from AACC and WW Grainger

Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) has been selected to receive scholarships from the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and W.W. Grainger, Inc.  The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow scholarship program will award two, $2,000 scholarships to military veterans seeking a degree in technology.

The scholarship program is designed to support community college students studying industrial-related trades such as welding, plumbing, construction, HVAC and automotive.  Over the last four years, Grainger, North America’s leading distributor of facilities maintenance products, has offered scholarships to more than 250 technical education students at 100 AACC member colleges across the country.  “We are very pleased to participate in this scholarship program that serves our military veterans,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell.  “This program is coordinated through the American Association of Community Colleges, so we at Northeast feel particularly honored that we are one of the community colleges in the United States that was chosen to participate. We are grateful to the AACC, Dr. Walter Bumphus (AACC President and CEO), the W. W. Grainger, Inc., and our veterans for being included in this scholarship program.”

The scholarships will be available for two full-time students currently enrolled in their final year of study and in good standing to graduate from their technical education program in 2013.  The student’s area of study leading to associate’s degree or licensed certification in electronic systems, heating/air conditioning, plumbing, pneumatics, welding, automotive, construction, facilities maintenance or other industrial trade.

The scholarship will be awarded through NACC’s Foundation.  The Foundation exists to support the mission of the college.  Nineteen community leaders from Jackson and DeKalb County work with events raising monies for scholarships together with Heather Rice, NACC Development Director.  The Foundation also accepts private funding from families, organizations, businesses and churches for scholarships, endowments and planned giving.
