Man arrested for assaulting his mother

On Sunday, July 15, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Jackson County Deputies and area first responder’s were dispatched to a 911 call at a residence on County Road 1 in the Paint Rock community, where a 72 year old female was apparently assaulted by her 55 year old son.
When deputies arrived they were advised that the suspect had just fled the scene in a vehicle. Deputies soon located the suspect, Terris Nathaniel Hastings, parked at the end of a dirt road on County Road 401. Deputies noted that he was impaired and smelled of the odor of alcohol. Deputies located and seized several pills in the possession of Hastings which were determined to be controlled substances. Hastings was arrested and charged with domestic violence by strangulation, domestic violence third degree assault, driving with under the influence (combined drugs and alcohol) and two counts of possession of controlled substances. Hastings was taken to the Jackson County Jail where bond has been set at $18,000.

The victim was transported to the Huntsville Hospital, treated and later released. The victim received numerous bruises to her face, neck, hands and torso.
