Kirkland to seek council seat

Scottsboro resident Larry Kirkland announced last week that he will seek the Place 5 seat on the Scottsboro City Council. The seat is currently held by Gary Speers.

Kirkland, a former councilman from the early eighties, is employed as an agent with Alfa Insurance.

Others who have announced intentions to seek office include Brent Miller, who is seeking Place 1 for the City Council. That seat is currently held by Thermon Bell.

Place 3 Councilwoman Carol McCrary has announced her intention to run for mayor. She will face incumbent Melton Potter.

The Scottsboro Municipal Election will be held Tuesday, August 28. Qualifying begins July 3.
