Seniors take advantage of Yellow Dot campaign

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department recently visited the Community Action Agency to sign people up for their Yellow Dot Program. The Yellow Dot program provides people with a folder to put in their glove compartment that has a photo of the individual and the details of their medical information. The Sheriff’s Department also furnishes those who sign up with a decal for their car, so emergency response workers will know to look for the folder.

Norma Harvey, of the Community Action Agency, said she contacted over 70 people and invited them to come sign up for the free and useful service. “It’s good for everybody, not just the elderly. Hopefully we’ll get a lot more people involved in this.” she said.

Of the 70 she contacted, many showed up. The building was crowded with people waiting in line to have their picture taken by the Sheriff and receive their free packet and decal.

Betty Martin was happy to receive her Yellow Dot packet. She said, “I think it will be a good thing, especially about your medicine if you happen to have a wreck.”
