Greetings from We Care, Inc. - 05/09/12

DRUGS KILL.  How can I convince you young people that you are sitting on a time bomb if you are using illegal drugs.  You are killing yourselves one cell at a time.  Your brain cells are being eaten up;  your immune system is eroding and one day you will no longer be able to fight diseases like AIDS and CANCER.  I have witnessed people I love kill themselves.  It takes a while but eventually it is going to catch up with you and the people who love you will mourn even more than they are mourning now.

What is it going to take to make you see what you are doing to your life?   Not only your life but your mother’s life.  Your father’s life.  Your children’s lives, your wife’s life.  The families of drug addicts or alcoholics cannot have a normal life, ever, as long as they know you are suffering.  They suffer right along with you.  Do you care?  My answer to that would be “no, you don’t care.”  Your brain is so fried you don’t care about anybody but yourself.  You are a very selfish person.  You put yourself and your wants before your own children; your wife; your mother; your brothers and sisters.  Nothing or nobody is as important as the next drink or next hit.

How did you come to this place? I have always tried to look beyond the facade, try to see what drives an addict or alcoholic.  I’ve worked with people who were raped, beaten, neglected, abandoned by their parents when they were young.  But that was then!  You can climb out of that mire.  When you are an adult you make your own choices.  Whatever hurts you are trying to hide by using drink or drugs is not the answer.

There are so many people that love you if you would only believe that.  Many of us stand ready to support you on your road to recovery.  All you have to do is ask.  We at Celebrate Recovery do not judge you.  We have all had our own problems and heartaches and it is up to us to try to do something about it.  The past is the past.  Leave it there among the debris.   Look ahead only.  Never look back.  If you keep looking back you will never be able to move forward.  Turn your life over to the Lord and let him wipe your slate clean.  He said he would make you white as lamb’s wool.  Let him.

Celebrate Recovery meets every Thursday evening at The Mercy Place in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church, 1105 South Broad Street.  We start with a free meal at 5:30, praise and worship at 6:15 and small groups at 7:15.
