Scholarships announced

Hannah Duncan of Woodville High School and Colin Lott of Scottsboro High School have been announced as scholarship recipients.

The National Beta Club has announced that Hannah Duncan has been named a Beta Scholar which entitles her to a scholarship award of $1,000.

Hannah, a senior at Woodville High School, competed against more than 1,000 candidates nationwide for this honor.  Two hundred nineteen scholarship recipients were chosen.  She plans to attend Northeast Community College and major in pre-veterinary medicine.  Hannah was recommended for this award by the local Beta Club Sponsor, Mrs. Felicia Harding, and high school principal, Mr. Bruce Maples. 

Hannah is the daughter of Melissa and Leslie Duncan.  Her grandparents are Luther and Shelby Duncan of Woodville and Rita Townsel of Paint Rock.  

Colin Lott is the recipient of a University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Golden Excellence Scholarship. The scholarship, based on academic achievement, is valued at $7,000 per year and renewable for four years for a total value of up to $28,000. Lott, a senior at Scottsboro High School, plans to major in engineering. He is the son of Bob and Marilyn Lott. Known for its innovative and interdisciplinary approach to education at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, UAB is an internationally renowned research university and academic medical center.
