There are two levels of Tai Chi offered at the Scottsboro Senior Center. Tai Chi is a slow-motion group exercise that has been enjoyed by its practitioners around the world for centuries. Many health care providers have found Tai Chi a useful exercise for combating arthritis and bone health problems, as well as improving balance. All the Tai Chi classes are low-impact and their practice may also act to lower blood pressure and strengthen mind/body coordination.
All of the classes start with some warm up exercises that loosen muscles and teach one to gently breathe more deeply and correctly. The Basic Tai Chi class meets for an hour on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. After the warm-up exercises, the group proceeds to practice basic forms of Tai Chi. .
The Advanced Tai Chi class, a group which has previously completed the Basic training, meets MWF at 12 to 1:00 p.m. They warm-up, review the Basics, and then practice more advanced and complex forms of Tai Chi. The class was taught by Marci Flanagan, who has her training certificate.
