NACC to hold alumni basketball game

On Saturday, Aprial 21, the Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) Gymnasium will be filled with excitement!  NACC is hosting an Alumni Basketball game to help bring awareness to the upcoming 50th Anniversary that the College will be celebrating in 2015.  “Each year we are having small events to build on our NACC Alumni and Friends Association,” stated Heather Rice, NACC Development Director.  “We are trying to hold events that will pull in every student that attended NACC, from the 60s to now!”
Ryan Tramel, SGA President, and Jessie Martin, Northeast Basketball League Commissioner at NACC are the student coordinators for this day.  More than 60 students signed up to play in the intramural program this past fall.  These students are very excited to be a part of this game.  The basketball game will also kick-off Spring Fling for NACC students.  Spring Fling week is a great opportunity for students and faculty to interact in activities such as NACC Amazing Race, Next Top Model, Cupcake Wars and Northeast Idol.

Not only are the students excited to play and promote the college, but they will be playing with legends of NACC.  Alums such as Ronald Bell, Larry Lingerfelt, Kenneth Wilson, David Pack and Bruce Pickett will be there to cheer them on.  These former NACC basketball players made history by playing on the first NACC basketball team in the 60s.  They concluded their first year of intercollegiate basketball during the 1966-1967 year as Alabama State Junior College Champions.  In their second year they were ranked the number one defensive junior college team in the nation.

“It will be great to see some of the former Mustang players at Northeast again,” stated Dr. David Campbell, NACC President.  “I know that the current players that we have in our intramural program will enjoy meeting these former players, competing against them, and hearing about their experiences.  The game itself should be a fun and enjoyable event for everyone involved.”

The basketball game will begin at 10 a.m. on April 21 in the gymnasium on campus.  It is a family event and open to the public.  BBQ sandwich plates will be sold after the game.  For more information on this event, please contact Heather Rice at 256.638.4418 ext. 2301 or 256.228.6001 ext. 2301 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
