When I talk to young people about their lives of doing drugs I tell them “you have only two choices you can live or you can die.”
If you want to live then you must quit drugs and take care of your health in the first place for all those drugs you pour into your body will eventually kill you.  Perhaps you wont physically die but you will die morally, spiritually, and every other way

Your body cannot take years and years of drug abuse.  Ask people who have had heart trouble, strokes and other bad things happen to their health.  Your immune system is destroyed and you cannot fight diseases.  Why can’t you see this without my having to tell you.  Why in the world would you want to go about your life eating nothing much except pills, lose weight, lose your hair, lose the respect of people who once thought you were a fine person.  Why?  Give me one good reason.

I know you are not going to listen to your parents.  They are dumb anyway but listen to me.  I have seen it happen.  You are killing yourselves.  Heart transplants at age 17, wrecks that leave you crippled for life, prison sentences.  Why would you chose a life of this misery?  Why?  What is wrong with you young people?  Does it effect your mind so badly you cant see what you are doing to yourself?
People who don’t do drugs will shun you.  People who do use drugs will use you.  Friends?  You have none.  Not a single one.  Ask anyone who has ODed how many of their so-called friends visited them or even bothered to send them a card while they lay near death.   There are no friends in the drug world.  Only bums and users.  When you are of no use to them any more they vanish and then what are you left with?  Still wanting another hit?  WAKE UP YOUNG PEOPLE BEFORE YOU LOSE YOUR LIFE.  You may not believe me but look around you.  How many drug addicts are happy.  How many have a decent job.  How many bum around sleeping anywhere they can move in on somebody else.  Don’t you have any respect at all?
 
What happened to the way your parents raised you?  Why would you swap that life for a life of degradation and shame and maybe death.
WAKE UP YOUNG PEOPLE.  DRUGS KILL.  Maybe it will take years to kill you or you could OD at any time but believe me it is going to kill you if you don’t stop while you can.  You need help.  Don’t be ashamed to ask for it.

Celebrate Recovery is a good place to start.  It meets at The Mercy Place every Thursday night beginning at 5:30 with a free meal, worship at 6:15 and Small Groups at 7:15.  First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, South Broad Street.
