“What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday,” I read recently that many of us would be out in the street sans clothing. We call on God when we are desperate but do we remember to thank him when He answers our prayers.  Would you accept a gift from a friend and never say, “thank you?”  Then when we receive a gift from God we should remember to thank Him as well.

Sometimes we tend to take God for granted but He is our friend and when He gives us what we ask for certainly we should remember to thank Him immediately.  He gives us many things even before we even ask.

We only have to look around to see all the things the Lord has provided for us.  Every time I look across my yard and surroundings I thank Him for allowing me to prosper during my lifetime.  I’m a long way from a tub and rub board, kerosene lamp, out door toilet, wood-burning cook stove, heating with a fireplace, churning the milk, slopping the hogs, milking the cows (nine of them), straining the milk through a clean flour sack and I could go on and on.  Sometimes I wonder how I got from there to here and when I think about it I immediately say a prayer and thank God for all I have.  

When He allows us to prosper we should pay it forward.  We should never forget our roots and the people we saw suffering along our journey.  There’s nothing disgraceful in being poor but the disgraceful thing is not pulling ourselves out of poverty if we are willing to work and spend our money wisely.  I have no patience with people who buy 56” TVs while they rent a house or their children need clothing.  I was watching a $20 used 19” black and white TV that had cigarette burns on it while my friends were watching colored TVs and driving new cars.  I painted my little metal TV to match my wall and everybody thought it a novelty.  

All this is, is to  say never forget to thank the Lord for all your blessings.  Every day is a gift; Every breath is a gift.  Thank Him daily and don’t forget to “pay it forward.”
