Scottsboro Christmas Parade to be “A Storybook Christmas”

The Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce has announced plans for the 2011 Christmas Parade.  The annual spectacle is scheduled to move through downtown Scottsboro on Monday evening, December 5th at 6 p.m.  This year the theme will be “A Storybook Christmas.”  All floats will be judged on their interpretation and decoration merits based on a favorite Christmas story found in almost any children’s storybook.  Line-up will start at 4:30 p.m. in front of Collins Elementary School on Legion Drive, off South Broad Street.

Anyone interested in participating in the year’s Christmas Parade must come by the Chamber office and sign an Entry Form.  The Scottsboro Police Department requires each vehicle driver to present a current driver’s license.  Your entry form will be presented or displayed when you arrive for the line-up.  In case of rain, a date has been set for the next day, Tuesday, December 6 at 6 p.m..

A $10 donation is requested for each entry into the Christmas Parade.  All money that is donated will go to the Community Service League Angel Tree Fund.  The Angel Tree funds go to purchase gifts for foster children in Jackson County as well as college scholarships.

Each entry or vehicle will enter the line from Jefferson Street.  If you wish to drop off someone that will be in the parade, the drop-off location is in the parking lot behind Collins Elementary.  You may enter through Cecil Street.  The walking areas will be lighted and volunteers will help finding the float rider’s destination.

The Scottsboro Police Department is requiring that all horse and 4-wheeler entries fill out an entry form at the Chamber office prior to the parade.  Vehicles and horses will be dropped off at the parade site at Collins Elementary School.  You must then take your towing vehicle or horse trailer to the parking lot between Willow Street and Laurel Street.  (That’s the parking lot near Dr. Barrilleaux’s Dentist office.)  You can then load your vehicles or horses at this point after the parade.  You will not be allowed to ride or drive horses and 4-wheelers back to Collins Elementary after the parade.

The Chamber strongly encourages parents to keep children off the direct path of the parade and away from moving vehicles during the parade.  Safety is a top priority!

Deadline for entering the Christmas Parade is Friday, December 2, at 4 p.m.
