It’s styling... 09/07/11

If you are someone who needs that “wow” factor for yourself and are always looking for something different, I am here to introduce you to the magnetic nail polish.  Companies like Lancome, Layla and Lpn have introduced their new line of polishes that let you create designs by using a magnet.

The polishes are thicker and more costly than the traditional polishes because they contain metal shavings. After the polish is applied to the nail, you roll a magnet over the polish (do not touch the polish) to bring out a design in the polish.  This design might be diagonal lines, a star pattern, etc.  Companies furnish these magnets with different patterns on the bottom of the magnet.

When the magnet is put very close to the painted nail the magnetic shavings in the polish rise up toward the magnet to form a design in the polish.  It is a fantastic concept and creates a delicate design in the polish.  Customers can do this process themselves or can have it done by your nail tech.

The trick to getting the design in the nail polish is to put the magnet over the nail polish when it is wet.  Paint one nail with two coats of polish and immediately place the magnet over the polish before it has time to dry.  The magnet does not touch the polish but get it very close, then apply your top coat to finish the nail.  Some manufacturers sell you individual magnets and then some are on the tops of the polish bottles. And we thought crackle nails were unique.
