The total of the grant was for $143,202 and was applied for on March 1, 2010.

Scottsboro City Solid Waste Superintendant Eddie Blizzard said they just received the truck due to the bidding process and the manufacturing of the vehicle.

Blizzard said the truck costly around $124,000 and will be used exclusively for the residential curbside green bag pickup and businesses and schools who participate in the city’s recycling program.

A portion of the grant money was also spent on continuing education programs in the Scottsboro City School System.

“We are very thrilled about the grant and the ability to provide benefits for the schools and the residents in Scottsboro,” stated Blizzard.

Coloring books, rulers, pens, pencils, book marks and mugs will be given to the students in the school system to help promote recycling.  “Each of the items to be given out are manufactured out of recycled items,” says Blizzard.
