SWCD to sponsor “green projects”

The Jackson County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is accepting applications for participation in their “Go Green” sponsorship program according to Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Phillip Thompson.

Sponsorship of up to $500, will be available to eligible Jackson County schools, non-profit groups or civic organizations who implement a “green” project in their community. “Our program gives the applicant the freedom to choose the project that best fits their needs. Community cleanup and beautification projects, outdoor classrooms and gardens, recycling programs or environmental clubs are some easy ways to go green”, stated Thompson.

Organizations that are chosen to receive sponsorship will be asked to give a brief presentation at the Annual SWCD Awards Reception. Applications must be submitted to the Jackson County SWCD prior to July 1, 2011. All projects must be completed by September 1, 2011.

Applications are available at the Jackson County SWCD office located in the USDA Service Center at 2345 South Broad Street in Scottsboro, or on-line at jacksoncountyswcd.com.
