During last week’s Scottsboro City Council meeting Greg Mashburn was appointed to the Scottsboro City Council Place 1 seat, left vacant by Jessica Butler.

Butler resigned from her position on May 25 due to her relocation to another State. Butler’s resignation was officially accepted on June 4. The City Council had 60 days to make an appointment to the seat prior to the appointment being sent to Governor Kay Ivey, who could have made an appointment or called for a special election. A total of 13 citizens applied for the position. Several attempts to make an appointment to the seat failed with City Council member Gary Stewart nominating Jenna Bell and City Council member Keith Smith nominating Linda Bray. The votes ended in a tie each time. However, at Monday night’s meeting, Stewart again nominated Bell, while Smith nominated Mashburn. The vote was 3-1. Mashburn was sworn in immediately. His term will expire in 2020.
