During a recent Jackson County Commission work session, Commission Chairman Matthew Hodges spoke regarding the Business Privilege Tax Agreement with the City of Scottsboro.

This agreement will resolve the question of proper distribution of the Business Privilege and Corporate sales tax received by the county.
The agreement states that the tax will be distributed in existence with the 1999 formula. The sum of $140,000 will be held by the county to be distributed at the request of the city, in single or multiple payments for business, commercial or industrial or development purposes within the city limits.
Commissioners discussed certification incentives. Hodges stated with the current certifications, if  three  percent is  given it will come at a cost of $20,000 and if five percent is given it will cost approximately $30,000.  Hodges stated they are also looking at other certifications to see if they qualify including positions at Public Works, the Jackson County Jail, and possibly the Jackson County Sheriff’s office, depending on how the Commission chooses to proceed and the requirements coming through from the ACCA.
Hodges announced a donation of $10,000 for the Jackson County Park. Park Manager Carl Barnes proposed two pavilions be placed in the park and storm doors be installed with the funds from the donation.  
County engineer Jonathan Campbell spoke about the public works organizational chart. Campbell stated that since the reorganization some areas needed attention. This includes the shop supervisor position and classification and job description revisions that include necessary CDL requirements and job experience.
