During the recent Jackson County Commission meeting, members approved several items.

Commissioners tabled a motion to approve  bus passes for Life Resources Services of Jackson County. Life Resources previously requested bus passes to assist those who utilize their service transportation to interviews and physician appointments. The motion to table the approval of 20 passes was made by Commissioner Tim Guffey. Guffey explained that he would like to get additional information for further discussion.
Commissioners voted not to pay the invoice from Alabama Mountain Rivers and Valleys as previously discussed in a work session. During that work session Commissioner Jason Venable mentioned that several appropriations have recently been cut and there were others he would prefer to fund in the alternative. During the meeting, Guffey made the motion to deny the recommendation.
Commissioners voted to approve the 2018 holidays for county employees.
These holidays included all State Holidays and did not include extra days.
Commissioners also approved the hiring review boards recommendation to fill the temporary laborer, HMT-1 and EA-1 positions at Public Works.
The final item was a motion to move forward with an Attorney General’s opinion regarding Community Corrections. At the previous work session, discussion regarding Community Corrections was tabled until January, 2018.
Venable, at that time, explained discussions had been held and the Commission was in the process of making requests for information from Community Corrections.
The Commission approved the motion to move forward seeking an opinion.
