Terrance Austin, age 29 of Hollywood, has plead guilty to the murder of Ruby Durham, age 88 of Scottsboro.

On Friday, July 22, 2016, the Scottsboro Police Department was called to a residence in the 3300 block of East Willow Street in reference to a welfare check. Police discovered Durham deceased inside her residence. Her vehicle was missing from her residence.

On July 25, 2016 Jasper, Tennessee authorities advised the Scottsboro Police that they had recovered Durham’s vehicle in their area and that Austin had been taken into custody. Austin has been held in the Jackson County Jail on bond of $1 million since that time.

Austin was sentenced by Jackson County Circuit Judge Jenifer Holt to 45 years in the Alabama Department of Corrections. Austin's sentence was imposed pursuant to a plea agreement recommended by the District Attorney and the victim's family.
