Jackson County Commission Chairman Matthew Hodges attended his last County Commission meeting last week.  

Several items were approved including: A motion to renew the employment contract for one Senior RX employee; A motion to renew the employment contract for the current county administrator was approved for one year, with the option to renew for five years; A motion to approve the half day on the 22nd and whole days on the 23rd and 24th of November for the Thanksgiving Holiday;  A motion to approve the state bid list pricing for the purchase of a litter control van, not to exceed $30,000.  Jackson County Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen explained that from his understanding the vehicle currently used needs a new transmission; A motion to approve the department head’s recommendation for the vacant temporary laborer position with the public works department;  A motion to enter into a cleaning contract with Hester’s cleaning service for the cleaning of cabins at the Jackson County Park; A motion to sign an agreement with ALDOP regarding section 5311 (transportation) grant for the council on aging, a 60/40 grant; A motion to approve the department head’s recommendation for the vacant sanitation department positions.
Appointments were discussed for the Jackson County Healthcare Authority Board. The board has three openings, with seven applications received. The terms expiring were tabled until the next meeting. Harold Brookshire who previously resigned from his term for medical reasons, was reinstated to the board.
Appointments were also discussed for the Department of Human Resources Board. Letters of interest are currently being accepted by the Jackson County Commission.
The resignation of Mike Ashburn as Jackson County EMA director was accepted.  Felix Jackson was appointed as interim EMA director for a period of 90 days.
During announcements all department heads thanked Hodges for his time serving Jackson County.  Ashburn thanked Hodges for personally going the extra mile to help the EMA during disasters .
Hodges adjourned the meeting by stating, “I love what I do. I love this job. I love this county. It has been an absolute honor to serve the last five years.”
