Alabama Back-to-School Sales Tax holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 21 and will last until 12 midnight Sunday, July 23.
Originally enacted in 2006, the Act allowed shoppers to purchase back-to-school items, tax free the first weekend in August. This year, a new Act moved the holiday to the third full weekend in July.
Most counties, cities, and towns participate in the holiday. A complete list of those can be found the Alabama Department of Revenue web site.
Tax exempt items include but are not limited to: clothing priced at $100 or less per article; computers, software, printers or computer supplies with a purchase price of less than $750; school products such as paper, pencils, crayons, glue, notebooks, bookbags, school art supplies, lunch boxes, etc.
