During the recent Jackson County Commission meeting, Commissioners approved the DHR lease agreement, valid until September 30, 2019. The lease was increased from $1.00 per square foot to $3.00 per square foot.


A motion to approve Gavin Arnold’s six-month extension for employment for 6 additional months with Public Works was approved.
A motion to approve the resurfacing project on County Road 61 and a motion to approve and advertise for a public hearing to vacate County Road 458 was approved.
Jackson County Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen announced that two Chevrolet Tahoes have been recently purchased by the Sheriff’s office, however, they are in need of more vehicles. Harnen requested that the Commission look at purchasing additional vehicles because at least two additional vehicles will be needed. Harnen stated that it had been several years since the Commission purchased vehicles for the Sheriff’s Department. Harnen also stated that they are also having issues hiring people because of family insurance premiums. Other agencies nearby are paying between $90-$150 per paycheck for family insurance and Sheriff’s employees are paying $400-$500 per paycheck for insurance.
