Benjamin "Ben" Homer Vines, Jr., age 74  of Alva, Florida, formerly of Scottsboro, passed away on May 25, 2018.

A celebration of life service will be held on June 16, 2018 at the Scottsboro Depot Museum beginning at 10 a.m.

Mr. Vines is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ankeney; sister, Beverly Taulman; daughters, Cheryl (Lynn) Thornton, Shannon (Tim) Haston; son, Bradley Vines; stepdaughter, Emily (Bo) Bates; grandchildren, Christian Gray, Dillon Thornton, Adyson Thornton, Matlyn Thornton, Wimberly Haston, Windsor Haston, Carson Vines, Colton Bates, Gary Bates, Dawson Bates and Chase Bates.

Mr. Vines was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Beatrice Howell Vines.

He was born February 19, 1944 in Tarrant, Alabama. He graduated in 1966 as a graphic designer from the University of Alabama. He remained a loyal Alabama fan throughout his life. After graduation Ben moved to Scottsboro, where he worked for 20 years as a textile designer for Gay-Tred and J.P. Stevens textile mills. Later, Ben moved to Destin, Florida, where he met and married his wife of 26 years.

Ben had many varied interests. He was an exceptional artist and photographer, displaying his works in galleries in Scottsboro, Pensacola and Matlacha. Ben was the official "Scottsboro Depot Museum Artist". He continued to pursue these interests throughout his life. He enjoyed outdoor sports, was a good , honest man and a true friend to many.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to : The Scottsboro Depot Museum/JCHA at P.O. Box 1494, Scottsboro, Alabama 35768.
