Retired Sheriff Paul David Mount, age 79 of Scottsboro, passed away on September 2, 2017.

Funeral services were held on September 4, 2017 from the Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Phillip Stewart officiated. Interment followed in the Union Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughters, Trina Mount Johnson, Tanya Mount Proctor; granddaughter, Brieanne Johnson; grandsons, Blake (Glenda) Johnson, Dayne (Kacy) Proctor, David (Jessica) Proctor; great grandchildren, Aubrie Johnson, Wiley Paul Proctor; brothers, J.C. (Mary) Mount, Bill (Amy) Mount, Dean (Karen) Mount, James (Charlotte) Mount.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Berry Mount; parents, Jesse and Ethel Mount; granddaughter, Brooke JoAnn Johnson; and brother, Buford Mount.
Paul Mount served Jackson County as Sheriff. Mount began working with the Jackson County Sheriff’s office in 1970 under Sheriff Bob Collins. He was promoted to and served as Chief Deputy for 11 years. He was elected Sheriff of Jackson County in 1982 and took office in 1983, he then served two terms from 1983 until 1983. He did not seek re-election for a third time. He continued to work as an Administrative Assistant during Sheriff Mike Wells  administration until his retirement in 1998.
