James Lee Scales, age 69 of Scottsboro, passed away on July 1, 2017.

A memorial service was held on July 8, 2017 from the Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Allen Hayes and Dr. Robert “Jody” officiated.
Mr. Scales is survived by his wife, Diane Scales; stepsons, Echo Bristol and Terry Anderson; grandchildren, Tyler, Aliah, Elise, Aiden; and brother, Edward (Michele) Scales.
Mr. Scales was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Helen Scales.
Mr. Scales attended St. Paul’s Catholic Seminary in Saginaw, MI. from 1962 until 1965. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in Alpena, MI in 1966. Later in 1970, he graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI in 1970 with a Bachelor Degree in Music. He also received a diploma for Radio Broadcasting in Statford, CT.
Mr. Scales was a member and faithful organist at Calvary Baptist Church. He was the Senior adult choir director and day member of Sacred harp. He retired from Klise Manufacturing and also taught music and volunteered at Hope Network in Michigan.
Mr. Scales was best remembered for his love of sports, fishing and playing golf. He was extremely talented with many instruments and enjoyed singing and performing vocal animation for his grandchildren.
