The last day for candidates to qualify with their political parties to participate in the June 5, 2018 Primary Election was Friday, February 9. 

During the primary, the offices of State Senate District 8; State Representative District 22; State Representative District 23; Jackson County Circuit Clerk; Jackson County Sheriff; Jackson County Commission Chairman; Jackson County Commission Place 1; Jackson County Commission Place 2;  will be decided.
Voters who choose to vote on the Republican ticket will see the following names on their ballots: State Senate District 8 incumbent Steve Livingston will face Max Fuller; for State Representative District 22 incumbent Ritchie Whorton will face Wayne Johnson, who was not re-elected during the last election; State Representative District 23 incumbent Tommy Hanes will face Parker Edmiston; Jackson County Circuit Clerk will be full of newcomers, Bart Buchanan, Keshia Gardner, Kyle Shelton and Tony Wallingsford;  for Jackson County Sheriff incumbent Chuck Phillips will face Jason Hepler; for Jackson County Commission Chairman, Tim Guffey  will face Terry Stone; for Jackson County Commission Place 1, Chris Gulley, Clinton Hill, Tim Hinkle and James Rich will all face one another; for Jackson County Commission Place 2 incumbent Jason Venable will face Chris Woods; for Probate Judge incumbent Victor Manning will face Billy Wilson; for Jackson County Board of Education District 1 Mike Matthews will face Gerald Barnes.  Coroner John David Jordan had no opposition.
Voters who choose to vote on the Democratic ticket will see Judge John Graham for Circuit Judge. Graham has no opposition; for Jackson County Commission place 2, Jack Allen; County Commission Chair Sadie Bias; for  County Board of Education incumbent Ken Storey will be on the ballot.
If a run- off is necessary it will be held on July 17, 2018. The General Election will take place on November 6, 2018.
