For their entire school careers, Akira Hutchins and Taylor Selby could be found on the sidelines cheering on the Chiefs.

For them, it has been a passion and a constant desire to be the absolute best. Now, they hope to be able to continue doing what they love at the collegiate level.
Before high school, these ladies were already taking gymnastics and competing with all-star squads. They have continued to work on their tumbling skills and are hopeful that these abilities will land them positions as cheerleaders at Jacksonville State University and UAH.
Akira hopes to cheer for the UAH Chargers while majoring in nursing. UAH has an excellent nursing program and is close to home. Her desire is to be a NICU nurse.
Taylor wants to join former NJHS cheerleader, Deanna Smelley, as a JSU Gamecock. Taylor will also major in nursing and is excited to experience the college setting while being close to home. She plans to be a pediatric nurse practitioner.
Stepping out to follow your dream takes a lot of courage and confidence. These ladies are described by others as exceptional, relentless, dependable, positive, and passionate. The cheer coaches, Ashley Lee and Nicki Hicks, provide constant encouragement and have challenged each of them to “Know Their Why”.
Akira and Taylor both also excel in the classroom. They are members of Beta and Academic Excellence and each serves on a local bank board. Taylor serves on First Southern Young Leaders and Akira represents NJHS on the First Jackson Bank Board.
North Jackson wishes both of these ladies Good Luck as they compete at the collegiate level!
Akira is the daughter of Shelby and Andy Hutchins and Taylor’s parents are William and Jill Selby. Both ladies attended Stevenson Middle School prior to coming to North Jackson.
