(AWA) decided to take on the project of raising 1,000 day old duckling to 4 weeks old, placing a band on the ducks and releasing most on Guntersville Lake and Wheeler Lake, that it would help make Alabama one of the most promising states for duck hunting?

The Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center is pleased to announce the annual Walt Hammer Scholarship for 2019.

The “Walt Hammer Heritage Award” is funded by the family of the late mayor of Scottsboro, Walt Hammer. This scholarship award is being offered to all high school seniors in Jackson County and Scottsboro City school systems. The $2,500 scholarship is a great opportunity for those senior students who are preparing for college. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 19, 2019. All essays must be submitted by Friday, April 19 either by mail or by dropping by the Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center during business hours Monday – Friday from 9:00- 4:00, or post stamped byFriday, April 19, 2019.
The award of the scholarship will be based on submitted essays consisting of 1,000 words or less on a past or present Jackson County leader and how they have made a positive impact on the area. All entries must be typewritten, double-spaced, and in English. Former Scottsboro Mayor Walt Hammer cannot be the subject.
For more information on the scholarship and application form, students should contact their senior advisor or high school counselor or call the Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center at 256-259-2122. The deadline for submitting the essay and application for the scholarship is Friday, April 19, 2019. Applications and essays will not be accepted after this date.
