It’s styling - 01/11/12

The first hand held hairdryer appeared on the market in 1925.  It produced only 100 watts of heat and therefore did not have sufficient power to dry hair quickly.  It weighed over 2 pounds because it was made of heavy steel and zinc.  Over the next 20 years engineers improved the design and managed to triple the heat output, raising it to 300 watts.  By the 1960’s, further improvements in electrical technology allowed the production of hairdryers up to 500 watts.  The safety of the hair dryer was the next concern in the 1970’s because if the hair dryer came in contact with water it would short circuit not to mention what would happen to the person holding it.  The blow dryer continued to be worked on to become bigger and better and by the 1990’s even portable dryers could produce 1500 watts of heat.  Today 2000 watts of heat is possible in a hair dryer and will probably be the highest it can achieve for the skin not to burn.   Today we have hundreds of blow dryers to choose from and a host of other features to consider when we buy one.  There are titanium blow dryers which are exceptional conductors of heat and maintain a stable output of ultra high temperatures.  Titanium emits negative ions that eliminate frizz and closes the cuticle for a smoother and shinier head of hair.  These dryers penetrate the hair from within for less damage.  Tourmaline is a precious stone that possesses the ability to release negative ions when heated.  These negative ions are great because they allow for less damage to the hair shaft.  A tourmaline dryer will generate six times more negative ions than other ceramic irons, cutting your hair straightening time in half and renewing luster.  Zirconia ceramic dryers are where the zirconia is first nano-crushed then fused with ceramic powder into the dryers heating element, resulting faster drying time.  Hair is manageable, shinier and softer.  With all these dryers humidity proof styles last longer.  Also infrared hair dryers are designed with quartz glass heating element to promote healthier hair.  The new models use about 39% less energy than conventional dryers since they remove inefficient nickel-chrome wires.  These even improve blood circulation to the scalp.

Stylists have decisions when buying a blow dryer.  Is the handle pistol shaped or hand grasped?  Is it light weight and does it have a cool down button?  How much do we want to pay?  According to folica.com the 10 Best Rated Hair Dryers are Sedu Ultrapower Hairdryer, second is Babyliss Pro Carrera Ceramic Ionic Hair Dryer, third is Sedu Ultrasilient Dryer, fourth is Babyliss Thermal Ionic Dryer, fifth is Chi Professional Rocket Hair Dryer, sixth is Solia 1875W Thermal Ionic Ceramic Hair Dryer, seventh is Babyliss Ceramic Xtreme Dryer, eighth is BabylissPro Porcelain Dryer, ninth is Babylisss ProTT Hair Dryer, and in tenth place is Hot Tools AntiStatic Ion Dryer.

Just a note about gift shopping—don’t forget to come into Beauty Salons.  What better gift than a new updated blow-dryer or flat iron.  Salons have great promotional items.  Indulge that person in your life with a shampoo and conditioner that is high end and they probably wouldn’t try out.  Buy a great carbide comb or a luxurious brush for your loved one. And don’t forget the gift certificate you can pick up at any salon for that special cut and style.
