Possible hunter's bullet strays, kills Jackson County man

A Jackson County man was killed Christmas day by a hunter. Sheriff Chuck Phillips
said after spending Christmas morning with his family, Michael Hart, 53 of
Scottsboro, went to the field near his home on County Road 11 in the Limrock/Aspel
area to check a game camera. Phillips said the area is known for hunting.

"Hart's wife heard a gun shot and attempted to reach her husband by cell phone.
After being unable to reach him by phone she went in search for him and found him
near his four-wheeler," Phillips said. " The Limrock Volunteer Fire Department and
the ambulance service responded to the 9-1-1 call around 4 p.m. Mr. Hart was taken
to the emergency room where it was determined he had been shot once in the upper
right side by a high powered rifle. He was pronounced at the emergency room. His
body has been sent for an autopsy."

Phillips said, We believe there was no intent in the shooting, that it was an
accident by nearby hunters. Mr. Hart had no gun with him when he went to check his
camera."

As of Monday, investigators were still trying to determine who had been hunting in
the area.
